1. What are all of these different communities?!

Somehow Hogwarts is Home has evolved to have a lot of sub-communities that make up the whole. There is an up-to-date list on the main community's profile with a short explanation of what goes on there. The best way is to pick one and just dive in! If you can't find something you like, try another! We have ones for graphics, writing, trivia, well, everything! We even have our own Quidditch cup!.

2. What can I do to earn points for my house? And knuts for myself?

There are a million and one things to do! Earning point and knuts, in general, is done by entering contests and activities in different parts of the community. If you use the links to our sub-communities found on the userinfo and have an explore! There's also a very high probability that your house has an awesome guide on how to earn points and knuts.

3. What do I do with my knuts/points?

Your knuts and points are kept totaled by the officials, who then give their totals to the moderator at the end of each month. The Mod will post these along with the total points your house has earnt at the end of each month. Your knuts will be automatically deposited into your vault at Gringotts. If you do not have a vault, sign in here, use the link to the left and claim your vault!

The points you earn, however, go to your house totals.

4. What can I post, and what can't I post?

First of all, anything that isn't related to Harry Potter or this community shouldn't be posted in the main community. We have an OT (Off Topic) community, hih_greathall, where you can post anything you'd like about anything! It's a place for members of all houses to talk about anything and everything. Common rooms are similar to the Great Hall, however, it does vary from common room to common room, what is considered acceptable for 'chatter'. As the common rooms are seen as 'social communities', feel free to post, talk, and get to know your housemates.

5. How do I know when things are going on? Is there a calendar of events?

There is a calendar which keeps track of major events, such as Quidditch, Hogsmeade and when points are due. This can be found here.

There is also a list of upcoming activities that can be found here. You can use the filter settings to see what activities can be expected when.

6. So what's the point of the main community? It seems like everything happens elsewhere.

The main community is the center of all that happens. We hold contests and debates monthly, post updates to points and knuts, and make important announcements.

7. What if I'm too busy to be a member anymore?

Simple; just leave a comment at the leaving post for your house and then leave the community. If you later decide to rejoin, you will be reaccepted into your old house, just contact your prefects through the leaving post. If you have been gone a very long time (we're talking years), you might like to consider being resorted. If you wish to be resorted you must have left the community and all of the subcommunities for at least 2 months.

8. What about when I come back?

Simple; just contact your prefects through the leaving post. If you have been gone a very long time (we're talking years), you might like to consider being resorted. If you wish to be resorted you must have left the community and all of the subcommunities for at least 2 months.

9. I love the sig tags that everyone uses; how do I get one?

There are several options regarding the signature tags. You can make your own as long as you follow our guidelines set in the platform profile, as well as keeping in mind that any activities you include must be activities that you are involved in; i.e., you can't put that you're a registered animagus if you are indeed not. The second option is that you can order one at hh_flourish, in which designers earn points for your requests! There are some great things to be seen there, so give it a look.

10. What are the guidelines regarding participation?

We keep track of our participants each month.

If we see that you have not participated in at least one point-earning activity over a span of four months you will be removed from the communities.

If you know that you will be unable to participate for any length of time, please post one of our Hiatus Banners in your userinfo so that you will dodge being removed, these can be found in the main communities userinfo. It should be noted that if you plan to be absent for more than 4 months we would advise you leave the community as all you need do to rejoin is contact us.

11. What do I do if I have a conflict with another HiH Member or Official?

If your conflict is within one community and with another member of that community, reply with a comment to the suggestions/complaints drop in that community. Your comment will be taken seriously, and it will be screened so that only the officials of that community and the Mods are able to see it.

If your conflict is with an official, feel free to contact one of the Mods via email at hih.officials@gmail.com or reply to the HiH Suggestions/Complaints Post.

In either case, be sure to be specific about the problem, adding any links that may help us to better understand and solve the issue.

12. Who can I reach with a further question?

Check the 'What do I do?' (PDF) sheet, which will inform you which official to contact. If you are still not sure, email: hih.officials@gmail.com.
